Apple Data Detectors SDK
Apple Data Detectors is a technology that searches a text selection for data that matches a certain pattern, then offers users a list of actions that can be performed on that data. Apple Data Detectors has a plug-in to the Contextual Menu, which enables the system to add Data Detector actions to appear in the Contextual Menu when the user has selected text.
C/F Registration Requests
This stack will allow users to register creator code IDs for their applications, and will alert the developer if the creator ID has already been reserved. NOTE: Use of this stack does not guarantee that the creator requested has not been reserved after the creation date of this stack. Please remember that Apple no longer registers file types.
Developer Notes
The Power Macintosh G3 Developer Note describes the hardware architecture of the new Apple Power Macintosh G3 family of computers. It defines the changes introduced in the logic board design that developers need to be aware of to design compatible memory and I/O expansion modules. This note lists all the features and capabilities of the possible hardware configurations the new architecture supports. The note also briefly describes the design of the new Power Macintosh G3 modular desktop and tower enclosures.
Drive Utilities
This folder contains Disk First Aid v7.2.2, a disk repair utility, and a new version of Drive Setup v1.3.1, a program that lets you partition, initialize, and update fixed and removable disks.

Inside Macintosh is a collection of books, organized by topic, that describe the system software of Macintosh computers. Together, these books provide the essential reference for programmers, designers, and engineers creating applications for the Macintosh family of computers.

The Apple Media Program Survival Guides are short technical guides designed to explain different aspects of interactive media authoring. These documents focus on the “how” of completing a task rather than the “why.” They are in Adobe Acrobat format (.pdf files).
MPW
This folder includes Golden Master and prerelease versions of MPW (Macintosh Programmer’s Workshop), debuggers for both Power Macintosh and 68K Macintosh, some miscellaneous MPW-related software, and complete documentation.
MPW is a general-purpose development environment that you can use to create 68K and Power Macintosh applications. It includes an editor, C/C++ compilers, assemblers, linkers, and dozens of useful tools and utilities.
Open Transport 1.3
Apple Open Transport is the current networking and communications subsystem for the Mac OS. It is based on industry standards and brings a new level of networking connectivity, control, and compatibility to Mac OS computers, while preserving and enhancing the hallmark of the Macintosh and Mac OS— built-in support for easy-to-use networking.
OpenFWBridgeFixJul97
This extension patches Open Firmware (OF) on certain Macintoshes to fix an OF bug.
On the family of machines code-named Tanzania and Zanzibar, and on Motorola StarMax and PowerMac 4400 computers, plugging in certain PCI cards containing PCI-to-PCI bridges will cause the computer to hang upon power on before the gray screen appears. This extension checks for the above machines and unconditionally patches Open Firmware by replacing the entire Open Firmware part of Non-Volatile-RAM (NVRAM—also called PRAM or Parameter RAM) with a software image contained in this extension.
TEC 1.3
This version of the Text Encoding Converter Manager (TEC) is included with Mac OS 8.1. The HFS Plus volume format introduced with Mac OS 8.1 stores filenames using the canonical decomposition form of Unicode 2.0; several of the changes in Text Encoding Manager 1.3 are to support HFS Plus.
WASTE 1.3a6
WASTE is a text-editing library for Macintosh programmers.
Designed to be a viable replacement for TextEdit, WASTE offers several enhancements, the major one being the ability to handle text files larger than 32 K.
Like TextEdit, WASTE handles multi-styled text and relies on the services offered by the Script Manager for drawing, measuring, and hit-testing the text and for finding word and line breaks. The built-in support for inline input makes WASTE fully WorldScript II-compliant (however, WASTE does not support bidirectional scripts such as Arabic).
Worldwide System Software
This folder contains U.S. and Worldwide versions of Mac OS 8.0 that were available as this edition of the Developer CD went to press.
